Stafford Rescue Victoria is an ATO endorsed Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) charity. All donations over $2 are tax deductible with all funds raised going directly to the care of the dogs we have available for adoption.
Stafford Rescue Victoria was started in 1985 as The Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of Victoria Inc Rescue Service.
The intent was to establish a central point of contact for those who had lost or found a Stafford. Unfortunately this service fast became one of the most used and in 2013 the Rescue Service broke away from the club and now acts independently as Stafford Rescue Victoria Inc. Today our aim is to:
With the increasing popularity of the breed more Staffords are ending up in animal shelters or as unwanted pets. In some cases the ‘Staffy’ has become the fashion accessory of youth, purely as a macho status. For some it’s a fleeting encounter as they are faced with the needs of an energetic dog that quickly becomes too demanding on their time. It’s a fact that Staffordshire Bull Terriers need to be ‘Part of the Family’. They simply cannot be left in the backyard. (Put yourself in their shoes… would you like that??)
With a deep knowledge and passion for this wonderful breed the current rescue co-coordinators are Linda Szirer and Jan Hutton, along with several other support volunteers. There is no ‘used- by date’ placed on these rescue Staffords. They are cared for and loved as long as needed until a suitable ‘Forever Home’ is found. They are desexed, microchipped and vaccinated prior to being re-homed. A lot of time and care is taken to match the right Staffy to the perfect family.
This rescue service is run entirely by volunteers and relies on donations.
We are all here for the same reason – A Love for Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
It has been brought to our attention that people are both fostering and re-homing dogs from within Victoria and interstate using Stafford Rescue Victoria’s name.
For someone to do this under SRV’s name has serious implications for us. Should anything go wrong we would be legally liable. We also have a protocol to follow when someone adopts our dogs and paperwork needs to be signed before the dog leaves our care.
We have a limited number of foster carers who have been approved by their local councils as per regulations. These carers have also signed agreements with SRV.
Therefore, unless you see a dog on our website or you are contacted by Janice Hutton or Linda Szirer, the dog is not from Stafford Rescue. Please note that all "surrenders" must also come through Janice Hutton.
